Bite turbos are small metal or acrylic (pink/tooth color) blocks that are placed in the front (anterior bite turbo) or back (posterior bite turbo) of your mouth in order for the teeth to move more rapidly. When the teeth aren't biting together tightly (as they did before braces were placed) they can freely move into the correct position.
When you first get a bite turbo it may feel as though you can't bite at all – this feeling is temporary. Your teeth will come together enough to eat "brace-friendly" foods. To make it easier to chew, make sure the food you eat is a little bit bigger than the size of the space where the teeth aren't touching. Also, always cut or tear off pieces of food and place it in your mouth where the back teeth can chew correctly.
When you wear an anterior bite turbo, never bite into any food with your front teeth. Instead, cut or tear off pieces of foods and place food into your mouth where the back teeth can chew it correctly.
These turbos do not cause pain and will most likely remain on your teeth for the length of treatment. If a turbo comes off, please call our office during regular business hours to schedule an appointment for it to be replaced. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the bite turbos, just give us a call.
